2015 FCA Boothockey Champion Crowned

The 2015 FCA Boothockey Tournament is in the books and the St Francis Saints (AKA St. Cloud State Huskey’s) has been crowned Champion. The day kicked off with prayer and a message contrasting the story of the Apostle Peter standing in the cold by a fire and denying Christ described in John 18:18. Followed by the words from Hebrews 10:39 saying “We are not those who draw back and are destroyed, but those who have faith and obtain life.”

It was a joy have the hometown players from St Francis, Joey Benik & TJ Belisle, join in the fun after their SCSU victory over UMD Bulldogs Saturday night. A unique privelege to have these guys along with teammates Andy Benik & Mike Maroney share about their experience of going through the process of playing high school hockey to playing juniors to now being at the college level. Each of these kids were blessed to have Dave Holmquist as a Chaplain & Mentor in their life growing up. It’s pretty cool to see this relationship continue into their college careers.

In pool play, the Mahotmedi Zephers finished 3-1 with the only loss to the college boys, St. Francis Saints. Johnson Govies had a respectable showing going 2-2 and both Blaine & the Old Guys finished 1-3. After a short break to enjoy piled-high pulled pork sandwiches, the semi-final game was played on the Championship Rink. After back and forth scoring, the Govies came out on top of the Zephers to set the stage for a Saints vs Govies Championship. The Saints jumped out to an early lead but with a Govies strategy of utilizing the embankment for traction (as originated by the Zephers earlier in the day) the boys from Johnson were able to tie up the game and then take the lead. The Saints then embraced the same tactic and with 5 minutes left tied the game up. With a few minutes remaining the Saints took the lead and despite a relentless attack by the Govies were able to hold on for the win.

A special thanks to 2010 Vikings draft pick Nate Triplett for stopping out and filling in with ‘Team Old Guys’. A highlight of the day was Nate scoring the lone shootout goal to deliver the only loss the Saints would see in the tournament…and the only win the old guys would enjoy. The day concluded with roasting hot dogs and marshmallows on the bombfire. A huge thanks to Dave Holmquist for all the prep work and for organizing this special event.

2014 Year End

Please join me in giving thanks to God for the amazing things being accomplished for Jesus Christ through Coaches and Athletes in our local schools this past year. I get the unique privelege of getting a front row seat to HIs daily work. We celebrated with an awards banquet to cap off the school year last summer, experienced a summer camp season that was unlinke anything Minnesota has seen in the past, rode motorcycles from school to school covering them in prayer in August, kicked off huddles in September, hosted a Fields of Faith in Andover in October and got to be part of several all-school outreach nights with professional & college athletes sharing their testimonies and answering questions from the students. On top of all this, I have the unique privelege of handing out nearly $3,000 worth of FCA bibles this year. I can’t tell you how much joy that brings to my heart.

With the 2014 FCA calendar year in the books, I thought it would be fun to do a short video of this fall’s highlights. There’s been so much accomplished and yet so much more to do. Please consider making a year end donation to this ministry by clicking here

Fields of Faith

A very powerful night as Andover hosted this years Fields of Faith October 8th . The temperature was extremely cold and thus many came fully prepared with thermal clothing, hats, gloves and blankets.

A huge thanks to those who stepped forward to lead us in worship. We have six athletes share their testimonies…a lot of tears were shed…and prayers were sent up asking to make some sort of sense out of the mess these high school kids are forced to endure. It’s difficult to put words to how God is working in these amazing young athletes. All anyone really had was to embrace each other with a huge hug at the end of the night.

Twin Cities Motorcycle Prayer Tour a Huge Success!!!

Despite a number of riders unable to make the run, motorcycles with maintenance issues and a high chance of thunderstorms, 52,875 North & East metro high school kids were prayed for this morning. With two additional groups making their rounds in the West Metro, nearly 100,000 students, coaches, teachers and administrators were covered in prayer.  Through the presence of local staff and area motorcycle enthusiasts, a 282 mile trek was made with stops at North & East metro high schools to read God’s Word and ask for His blessing on the school, it’s teachers, administrators, coaches and students.

A huge thanks to Chaplain Jim Hillman for leading the charge, those who donated bikes, Moms in Prayer groups, our FCA Huddle leaders & coaches, parent boosters and for all who helped plan, organize and implement this historic event. This couldn’t have happened without the support of these individuals. A special shout out to Jake Vanada and our West metro crew as they were also covering their schools in prayer.

Throughout the Twin Cities, riders showed up. And since we know there’s a God and we are not Him, we can have the assurance that He will do what only He can do. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” 1 John 5:
